Replacement of a centrifugal pump at a pulp mill

As part of a retrofit project at a pulp mill complex, a GLKV pump that was put into service in 2002 was replaced with a new model of the same type.

A multistage vertical can-type pump from the GLKV series is in use. It is designed to handle the challenging NPSH conditions associated with condensate pumping. This pump is integrated into the condensate circuit of a turbine-generator unit and is capable of pumping 220 m³ of condensate per hour to a height of 78 meters. 

The planned replacement of this pump, which has been in operation for over 20 years, is part of a preventive maintenance program aimed at modernizing this essential component. By utilizing current material standards and optimized manufacturing tolerances, we aim to enhance the system's operational reliability and minimize the risk of unplanned downtime.

 

This is a vertical, multistage Apollo condensate pump, model GLKV. It is mounted on the test stand. The flange connection is open, revealing the stage housing. In addition, the support frame for the pump has been assembled. All parts are made of shiny silver and matte metal or cast iron; the welded support frame is painted cream white.
